Privacy notice
Effective date: 12 September 2026
Your light report may appear publicly on the map. Your name and contact details will not. This notice explains what Keep Exeter Lit collects, why, and the rights you have over your data.
Who we are
Keep Exeter Lit is a community campaign. The data controller is Edie Walwyn on behalf of Steve Race MP, 26b Clifton Hill, Exeter EX1 2DJ.
You can contact us about anything in this notice at edie_walwyn@labour.org.uk.
What we collect
Public submission data: the pin location, the approximate street, the problem type you chose, any comment you write, and any photo you upload.
Contact details (optional): your name, email address and postcode — only if you choose to provide them.
Device ID: an anonymous identifier stored in your browser's local storage. It is used to remember which pins you have added or supported so the site can show them back to you and let you remove your own submissions. It is stored with each report or backing you make.
What appears publicly and what stays private
The pin location, approximate street, your chosen problem type, your comment and your photo may be shown publicly on the map. Please do not include personal information in the comment box or in photos.
Your name, email address and postcode are stored separately from the public map and are never displayed. They are only used to keep you updated about the campaign, and only if you asked us to.
Why we use your data (lawful basis)
We process your data under the legitimate-interest basis of UK GDPR: to run this community campaign, display residents’ light reports on the map, let you manage your own submissions, and contact you about the campaign only where you have asked us to.
Who we share it with
The site is hosted on Lovable Cloud, which stores the data on our behalf. Map tiles, street names and addresses come from OpenStreetMap services — your browser contacts those services to display the map.
We do not sell your data or share it with anyone else.
How long we keep it
Contact details (name, email, postcode) are deleted 12 months after submission. Public pins remain on the map while the campaign is running, unless you remove them or ask us to.
Your rights
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to or restrict how we use it.
You can remove your own pins directly in the app for 30 days after adding them. For anything else — including deleting your contact details — email edie_walwyn@labour.org.uk and we will action your request.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Where the map data comes from
Pins and support counts are submitted by residents through this site. Street names, addresses and base mapping come from OpenStreetMap. Reports are requests from the public and are not council decisions or commitments to repair.
